Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir revealed the name of the candidates during a press conference held at the BNP’s central office in Gulshan, following a key meeting of the party’s National Standing Committee.
Fakhrul, one of the most prominent faces of the BNP, chose Thakurgaon-1 as his primary constituency, reinforcing the party’s focus on strengthening its base in northern Bangladesh. His nomination comes amid growing emphasis on fielding senior leaders to lead the opposition charge.
Salahuddin Ahmad, a seasoned lawyer and senior party leader, will contest from Cox’s Bazar-1, a strategically important coastal constituency. His candidacy reflects the BNP’s attempt to expand its influence in the southeastern region.
The party has already announced preliminary candidates for 237 constituencies, with further names expected as coordination continues with allies in the Democratic Alliance. Final nominations will depend on seat-sharing agreements and local-level consultations.
