Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has urged the interim government to hold referendum on the July Charter within November and to conduct parliamentary elections in February next year.

The demand was made during a meeting of Jamaat’s Central Executive Council on Tuesday, chaired by Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, with council members in attendance.

During the meeting, Dr. Rahman also highlighted the positive outcomes of his recent overseas visits and their potential benefits for the country.

Expressing concern over delays in legally implementing the July Charter, the council warned that holding the referendum and parliamentary elections on the same day could compromise both the process and the referendum’s significance.

“If voting for the general election at any polling station is suspended, the referendum could also be delayed, which is unacceptable,” the council said.

Jamaat emphasized the immediate issuance of the implementation order for the July Charter and reiterated that parliamentary elections should follow in February, based on the referendum results. The council also called for the installation of CCTV cameras at all polling stations to ensure free, fair, and transparent voting.
