BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has accused certain groups of exploiting religion for personal gain while threatening the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Speaking at a rally at Nayapaltan in Dhaka on Friday, he said, “Those claiming to sell tickets to heaven in the name of religion are accusing a major political party of plotting against democracy. In reality, it is they who are conspiring against the nation’s independence.”

Abbas stressed that BNP has no history of conspiracies or attempting to seize power through backdoor means. “The country’s independence was achieved under the leadership of BNP leader and martyr President Ziaur Rahman. Yet today, some disrespect the significance of November 7 while accusing BNP of plotting. History proves otherwise,” he said.

He noted that BNP has remained calm and cooperative toward the government but warned that any underestimation of their patience would be a grave mistake. “If BNP takes action, those spreading false claims will face accountability,” he added.

Regarding the July National Certificate, Abbas criticized efforts to find faults and derail the process, urging groups to stop misleading the public and learn from history to avoid confusion among citizens.
