Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has clarified that the government will not be withdrawing 50 percent of army personnel currently deployed to maintain law and order.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday after a meeting of the law-and-order core committee at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat, Chowdhury dismissed recent rumors suggesting a partial pullback of troops.

“Half of the army members deployed to manage law and order are not being withdrawn. Any reports circulating otherwise are false; no such decision has been made,” he said.

When asked whether the government was concerned about the Awami League’s planned lockdown or shutdown programs, the adviser said there was no worry regarding these activities.
