A bus caught fire outside LabAid Cardiac and Diabetes Hospital on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Monday evening, triggering a rapid response from the fire department.

The incident occurred around 7:30 PM, prompting the Fire Service Control Room to dispatch two units from the Mohammadpur Fire Station to the scene.

Firefighters worked urgently to contain the blaze, which had fully engulfed the rear portion of the vehicle, said Khaleda Yasmin, Duty Officer at the Fire Service Control Room.

Crews were on-site and had brought the fire under initial control, she said, adding that two units responded immediately and were working to extinguish the remaining flames.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries have been reported so far, Yasmin said.

The incident caused temporary traffic congestion on one of Dhanmondi’s busiest thoroughfares. Police and emergency personnel cordoned off the area to allow firefighting operations and preliminary investigation.

An official inquiry has been launched to determine the origin of the fire.
