A Dhaka court has transferred the sedition case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court for trial.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jennifer Zerin issued the order on Tuesday after the case was formally declared ready for trial. The case was filed by CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Enamul Haque.

According to court documents, the accused, including Sheikh Hasina, currently abroad, allegedly participated in a Zoom meeting organised by a platform called Joy Bangla Brigade. During the meeting, participants reportedly discussed forming an interim government and overthrowing the existing administration through activities described by investigators as “anti-state.”

The sedition case was filed on March 27 this year following approval from the Home Ministry. A charge sheet against 286 individuals was submitted on August 14 after completion of the investigation.

Of the accused, 28 are currently in custody, including former MP Sabina Akter Tuhin, while 258 remain absconding. The court had previously issued arrest warrants and imposed travel bans against all accused.
