5 more die of dengue; 1,139 hospitalised in 24hrs

Bangladesh continues to face a severe dengue outbreak, with five more deaths and 1,139 new hospitalisations reported nationwide in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

As of Wednesday, the official dengue death toll for the year stands at 323, including three men and two women who died in the last 24 hours.

According to DGHS report, of the newly admitted patients, 179 were from areas outside Barishal city, 115 from outside Chattogram city, 223 from areas outside Dhaka city, 254 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 134 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 89 from outside Khulna city, 82 from outside Mymensingh city, 46 from outside Rajshahi city, three from outside Rangpur city and five from outside Sylhet city.

In the same 24-hour period, 1,051 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 77,989.

Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 81,773 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue fever; 62.4 percent male and 37.6 percent female.

Health authorities continue to warn that hospital admissions may rise further unless preventive measures are strictly enforced amid the ongoing spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
