An assailant stabbed to death the ninth-grader son of a sessions judge at the judge’s home in Rajshahi city on Thursday afternoon. The judge’s wife was also critically injured in the attack.
Later, police managed to apprehend the attacker, confirmed Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Abu Sufiyan.
Around 3:30pm, the attacker, Imon, abruptly entered the rented apartment of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman at Spark View Building under Rajpara Police Station.
At the house, Imon indiscriminately hacked Abdur Rahman’s son Tousif Rahman leading to his death.
Abdur Rahman’s wife Tasnim Nahar was injured and later underwent surgery at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The attacker Imon was also admitted to the same hospital with some wounds, said RMP Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman.
Abdur Rahman hails from Jamalpur while Imon hails from Gaibandha, Gaziur confirmed. A preliminary review of the incident suggests it was done out of old enmity between multiple individuals or families, police said.
Earlier, around 3pm, Spark View building’s gatekeeper Meser Ali intercepted Imon as the assailant approached the residential facility. Meser Ali required Imon to write down his name and phone number in an entry register.
Imon wrote down “Limon Mia” as his name, and falsely identified himself as the father of judge Abdur Rahman to secure entry. Being convinced, Meser Ali allowed Imon to go up to the fifth floor.
Half-an-hour later, the domestic help of Abdur Rahman’s house and people from neighbouring apartments discovered three bloodstained bodies in the apartment. Police were promptly informed.
