BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the numerous challenges currently facing Bangladesh can only be resolved by an elected government through parliamentary processes.

He stressed that an unelected authority is incapable of addressing such accumulated national issues.

He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the MVT Summit at a hotel in Chattogram.

“At this moment, the only demand of the people of Bangladesh is an elected government formed through the exercise of their voting rights,” he said, adding that focusing on minor issues would be a waste of time.

Amir Khasru stated that restoring democratic governance and returning the ownership of the state to its people—by enabling them to elect their representatives—would create pathways to resolving all existing problems.

Referring to the verdict scheduled for 17 November against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been convicted of crimes against humanity in absentia, he said that any situation arising around the verdict must be handled by the government and law enforcement agencies.

“This is not a responsibility of any political party,” he said, emphasising the need for Bangladesh to move away from such political culture.
