Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has called on the interim government to address public doubts regarding the upcoming referendum.

Speaking at a joint press conference of the eight-party alliance, which is protesting with five-point demands, he urged the Chief Adviser to clarify ambiguities in the July Accord.

Parwar said that while the eight parties had earlier justified holding a referendum before the national elections, the Chief Adviser’s recent statement referred to both the national election and the referendum on the same day, creating confusion among the public. “It is the government’s responsibility to remove this doubt,” he added.

He further noted that senior leaders of the alliance have reviewed the Chief Adviser’s speech and found that it partially addressed public expectations.

Parwar also appreciated that reforms proposed in the July Accord, along with legal orders required to implement them, have been carried out. “We view this positively and thank the government for completing these steps,” he said.

Leaders of the eight-party alliance emphasized that the government itself must campaign in favor of the referendum, warning that any party campaigning against it will face public rejection.

He also criticized recent administrative reshuffles ahead of the national elections, claiming that transfers of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) were made to appease a specific party through secret consultations. “Such appointments and transfers undermine the level playing field for elections. We call on the Chief Adviser to maintain neutrality,” Parwar stated.
