Dhaka on Monday called on New Delhi to immediately extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, after International Crimes Tribunal sentenced them to death for their involvement in the July killings.

The government stressed that India is treaty-bound to return the convicted fugitives.

In a statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the existing extradition agreement between the two countries makes the transfer of the convicts a mandatory obligation for India.

The ministry further warned that offering refuge to individuals convicted of crimes against humanity would amount to an unfriendly gesture and a disregard for the principles of justice.
