Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar on Monday praised the tribunal’s verdict, saying it reflected transparency, neutrality and international standards.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office at Moghbazar in the capital, he said the judgment fulfilled part of the nation’s expectations.

Parwar noted that as the judges read out the lengthy verdict, it highlighted “cruel, heinous and vengeful” nature of the crimes committed.

He said evidence presented in newspapers, audio and video materials and telephonic conversations had been proven and read out verbatim during the proceedings, leaving the nation “astonished.”

Contrasting the current verdict with previous trials of Jamaat leaders, Parwar claimed earlier proceedings were questioned globally and lacked international standard.

He alleged those trials involved fabricated complaints, coerced witnesses, manipulated judgments and even external interference, including the widely discussed Skype scandal.

He referenced a judgment from a British court that termed such a process a “genocide of justice.”

Parwar added that more verdicts are expected in cases related to killings in torture cells, alleged crossfire incidents, Pilkhana and Shapla Chattar.

He called for all ongoing and future trials to be conducted with the same level of neutrality and transparency.

Jamaat leaders Hamidur Rahman Azad, Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and A.T.M. Masum were also present at the briefing.
