The Government of Bangladesh is preparing a formal request to India via a Note Verbale for extradition of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who were recently sentenced to death in absentia for crimes against humanity committed during the 2024 mass uprising.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain disclosed the information to journalists at Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

“The letter requesting the handover of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has not yet been sent to India, but it is being prepared,” said Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain. “It may be sent today.”

He clarified that Foreign Ministry will not send the copy of the verdict itself. Instead, the Note Verbale will formally inform India of the verdict and request Sheikh Hasina’s transfer to Bangladesh.
