National Security Adviser (NSA) and High Representative for the Rohingya Issue Dr Khalilur Rahman is set to attend the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) meeting in New Delhi on November 19–20, amid Dhaka’s renewed call for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval invited Dr Rahman to join the regional forum.
When asked whether Dr Rahman would raise the extradition issue during his visit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said he did not want to “interfere with the agenda” of his colleagu
However, he noted that Dr Rahman could raise the matter if he deemed it necessary, though the government would continue to rely on official diplomatic channels.
On Monday, Bangladesh called on India to immediately hand over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both of whom have already been convicted.
The CSC aims to enhance regional security by addressing shared transnational threats.
Dr Rahman’s participation in the New Delhi meeting, the interim government said, reflects its commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial regional cooperation.
The government has prioritised regional engagement and has actively taken part in meetings across multiple regional platforms.
Earlier this year, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus was elected Chair of BIMSTEC and has since worked to reinvigorate SAARC, the press wing noted.
Dr Rahman previously led Bangladesh’s delegation to China-Indian Ocean Region Forum in Kunming, China.
Bangladesh was officially welcomed in 2024 as the fifth member of the Colombo Security Conclave, joining India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and the Maldives. Seychelles participates as an observer.
