Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, along with seven other parties, is preparing to contest the upcoming national elections through a seat-sharing arrangement.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday where Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad outlined the alliance’s new election strategy.

Azad said that the eight-party coalition will participate in the 13th national parliamentary elections based on mutual understanding, while keeping the door open for other parties to join the alliance. Previously allied with BNP, several Islamic parties are now planning to contest separately following the July political developments.

The coalition comprises Islamic Andolon Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Khilafat Majlis, Nezam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon, Bangladesh Development Party, and the National Democratic Party (JAGPAR).

The parties, demanding legal recognition for the July charter, allocation of seats in the upper house based on vote share, and a separate national referendum before the parliamentary elections, launched a new program of activities.

Under the new plan, the coalition will hold divisional rallies across seven cities from November 30 to December 6, excluding Dhaka, to campaign for a “Yes” vote in the referendum. Senior Naeeb-e-Amir of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Yusuf Ashraf, announced the schedule: Rangpur on November 30, Rajshahi on December 1, Khulna on December 2, Barishal on December 3, Mymensingh on December 4, Sylhet on December 5, and Chattogram on December 6.

Leaders from all eight parties attended the press briefing at the central office of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis in Paltan, Dhaka, following a meeting of their liaison committee. Key attendees included Jalaluddin Ahmed, Ahmed Abdul Kader, Sakhawat Hossain, Md. Abdul Jalil, Ashraful Alam, Fazle Bari Masud, Yusuf Sadek Hakkani, Towhiduzzaman, Abdul Majed Athari, Musa Bin Izhar, and Rashed Prabin.
