IUB FormulaE, a team of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), have secured First Place in the Shaheed Tanvin Innovation Award category at Innoverse Bangladesh 2025. The event, held on November 14–15, 2025, at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), brought together top innovations from universities nationwide, where IUB FormulaE stood out for its exceptional contribution to electric vehicle (EV) technology.
The team’s winning project showcases a fully self-developed EV powertrain designed for a Formula Student Electric Vehicle. Central to the system is a redesigned low-voltage three-phase induction motor engineered to improve safety, accessibility, and efficiency for local EV applications. Complementing this is an in-house Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), a technically advanced innovation rarely undertaken at the undergraduate level in Bangladesh. The powertrain is driven by a 60V LiFePO₄ battery pack equipped with a smart Battery Management System (BMS) to ensure enhanced safety, longevity, and performance.
Collectively, these innovations deliver a scalable, cost-effective, and research-driven EV powertrain tailored to the needs of Bangladesh. By minimizing reliance on imported components and emphasizing affordability, safety, and practical relevance, the project offers a strong foundation for advancing the country’s transition to clean electric mobility. This combination of technical depth, innovation, and societal impact was key to securing the first-place honor.
Innoverse Bangladesh 2025, organized by Whiteboard Initiatives with support from the ICT Division of the Government of Bangladesh and A2i, selected 45 top projects for exhibition. Teams were assessed based on innovation, technical completeness, applicability, impact, and presentation. In this competitive field, IUB FormulaE ranked above all participating university teams, earning an official certificate, winner’s crest, media recognition, and a BDT 50,000 prize.
IUB FormulaE operates under the supervision of Dr. Khosru Md Salim, Professor in the Department of EEE and Director of the Green Energy Research Center (GERC) at IUB. The team was founded and is led by Md. Imtiaz Abedin, Adjunct Faculty in the Department of EEE and Research Assistant at GERC.
Team members include: Md Mohiuddin Shuvo, Kallyen Kumar Tirtho, Syed Alif Ahmed Prothom, Kazi Shafin Al-Fee, Mahir Asif Sadman, Feroj Al Morsadi, Nowfil Bin Atiq, Mahady Mohammad Mainul, Nafisa Amin, Md Tahsin Hoq Bhuiyan, Md Shafin Rahman, Khadizatul Kubra Mow, Ankit Roy, Shakil Talukder, Tazwarul Amin, Arifin Imran, Sadman Sami, and Rayat Al Mueed.
