BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Saturday alleged that anti-democratic forces are conspiring to delay and obstruct the 13th national parliamentary election scheduled for February.
Speaking at a programme organised by Zia Parishad titled “Ziaur Rahman and Present Bangladesh” at the Jatiya Press Club, Khasru said democracy depends on free and fair elections, and the struggle to restore it continues. “Those who benefit from the absence of democracy do not want democratic order. We must stay united and win this fight,” he said.
Khasru criticized attempts to manipulate elections through undemocratic means and emphasized that BNP’s fight for democracy is inseparable from its political identity. He warned that failure in the February election would threaten democracy in Bangladesh.
Urging party leaders and workers to remain united, he stressed respecting opinions, avoiding confrontational politics, and seeking the public mandate through free elections rather than backdoor deals or force.
