The interim government has sent a letter to the Election Commission instructing it to prepare for a referendum.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared the information with the media on Saturday.
“In the letter, the government said it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold the referendum. It also instructed that the national election and the referendum be conducted on the same day,” he said.
The EC plans to announce the poll schedule in the first half of December and hold the election in the first half of February next year.
In his address to the nation on 13 November, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus said the referendum on implementing the July National Charter and the next 13th parliamentary election will be held on the same day.
This referendum will address four issues, while the countrymen will cast a “yes” or “no” vote on a single question covering these four issues.
