Bangladesh completed a commanding 217-run victory over Ireland in the second Test at Dhaka on Sunday, clinching the two-match series 2–0.
The match was defined by dominant batting performances and a potent spin attack led by Taijul Islam and Hasan Murad. Chasing an improbable 509 for victory, Ireland were bowled out for 291 late on the fifth afternoon, with Bangladesh taking the last four wickets in 59.3 overs.
Taijul Islam starred with the ball, claiming four wickets in Ireland’s second innings to finish with eight in the match. The left-arm spinner surpassed Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh’s all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests with 249 scalps. Hasan Murad also took four in the final innings, underlining his growing role alongside Taijul in Bangladesh’s spin attack.
Ireland’s resistance was anchored by Curtis Campher, who remained unbeaten on 71 off 259 balls — the longest fourth-innings vigil at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Harry Tector contributed a steady 50, but wickets fell consistently around them.
Bangladesh’s victory was built on a massive first-innings total of 476, highlighted by Mushfiqur Rahim’s century and Liton Das’ elegant 128. Mominul Haque added 63, while Shadman Islam and Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided solid starts. Ireland’s Andy McBrine took six wickets to keep his side competitive, but Bangladesh dictated the pace throughout.
In reply, Ireland managed 265, with Lorcan Tucker unbeaten on 75 and Jordan Neill scoring 49. The innings, however, was fragmented by recurring collapses, with Taijul and Murad sharing six wickets.
Bangladesh pressed ahead in their second innings, declaring at 297 for four. Mominul scored 87, Shadman 78, and Mahmudul 60, while Mushfiqur added an unbeaten 53, celebrating his 100th Test — becoming the first Bangladeshi to reach the milestone. He also became only the 11th batter in history to score a century in his 100th Test, having made a century in the first innings and a fifty in the second.
The match highlighted Bangladesh’s depth in batting and spin, with Taijul, Murad, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Khaled Ahmed combining to finish the job and secure a comprehensive series win.
