Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday said that there is no risk of law and order deterioration before the upcoming elections.
While responding to a question–a security analyst said that we are going through a transitional period in terms of internal security due to the crimes going on in the country, the Advisor said, “This is the comment of a security analyst. And I don’t know how he became a security analyst. Now everyone in our country is an analyst on various issues. But I don’t know who became one in what capacity. And if I don’t know, I won’t be able to comment on it.”
He made the remarks when responding to reporters after attending the regular Core Committee meeting at the Secretariat.
“No, there is no risk of law and order situation deteriorating before the elections. The law and order situation is gradually improving. But election rallies and processions will increase as the polls draw nearer.”
On earthquake preparedness, he urged caution and said authorities are working to develop an early warning system, noting that Bangladesh currently lacks one.
“Many countries have apps that give warnings 10 seconds before a possible earthquake. We are considering developing similar apps in the future,” he said, adding that discussions with experts will be held.
The Home Adviser emphasized strict adherence to building codes and urged RAJUK to carefully review proposals for buildings on filled-in waterbodies.
Regarding the Fire Service and Civil Defence, he said they have responded promptly to minor incidents, but the true effectiveness of preparedness can only be assessed after a major earthquake.
