BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that any law in Bangladesh found to be contrary to the Quran and Sunnah will be revoked, adding that no new legislation will be enacted against Islamic principles.
He made the remarks while addressing the National Conference organised by the Combined Imam-Khatib Council at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
Salahuddin said former President Ziaur Rahman had inserted “absolute trust and faith in Almighty Allah” into the state principles, but the Awami League removed it from the constitution. The BNP intends to restore it if returned to power, he added.
He said that the BNP adheres to the ideals of the Medina Charter and seeks to eliminate sectarian divisions in the country. He urged imams and khatibs to play a responsible role, ensuring that mosques remain free from controversy and non-religious activities.
The conference was presided over by Mufti Muhibullahil Baqi Nadvi, senior pesh imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and convener of the Combined Imam-Khatib Council. Religious scholars, Islamic leaders and imams from across the country also addressed the gathering.
