The government has requested detailed information on educational institutions damaged in recent earthquakes, following reports of structural impacts on high schools, colleges, madrasas, technical institutes, and government primary schools across the country.
Relevant departments have urgently issued letters to field-level officials to collect and submit the data.
On Sunday, the Education Engineering Department (EED) instructed district offices to report on institutions under the Secondary and Higher Education Division, as well as the Technical and Madrasa Education Division.
The directive, signed by Acting Chief Engineer Md Tarek Anwar Jahedi, asked executive engineers to submit reports by today, attaching details and multiple photographs of the affected institutions.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has also sent notices to field offices to document damage to government primary schools.
In a letter signed by Mirajul Islam Ukil, Director of the Planning and Development Wing, divisional deputy directors were asked to submit the required information by November 27.
According to the DPE, media reports indicate that structures of government primary schools in several districts appear to have been affected.
Bangladesh experienced four successive earthquakes on Friday and Saturday. While some schools and colleges suspended classes on Sunday for safety assessments, regular academic activities resumed Monday.
However, Dhaka University, Jagannath University, and Dhaka Polytechnic Institute have suspended classes and exams and instructed students to vacate residential halls for safety reasons.
