BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition is ‘extremely critical’, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday.

He made the remarks while speaking after Jummah prayers at a doa and monajat programme held at Nayapaltan in the capital seeking Khaleda Zia’s recovery.

Mirza Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia has made immense contributions to the country’s democratic movement. “She has struggled for democracy all her life. She has endured imprisonment and repression,” he added.

“We know that she was admitted to the hospital again in a severely ill state two days ago, and last night doctors informed us that her condition is extremely critical,” he said.

The BNP leader said the party had urged people across the country to pray for the recovery of Khaleda Zia—whom he described as the “leader of democracy” and “mother of democracy.” Prayers were held in mosques nationwide, he noted.

“Today, after offering prayers at the mosque in Nayapaltan, we have prayed to Almighty Allah for her complete recovery,” he said.

Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other central BNP leaders were also present at the programme.
