The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued distant cyclone warning signal no. 2 for four major seaports, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra, as Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ intensifies over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
According to BMD’s Special Weather Bulletin No. 06, issued on Friday, the cyclone is currently centered near the Sri Lankan coast and adjacent southwestern Bay of Bengal. As of 12:00 PM on November 28, Cyclone Ditwah was positioned about 1,940 km southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,885 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Port, and 1,820 km southwest of both Mongla and Payra Ports.
Cyclone Ditwah is moving north-northwestward, and while it remains distant from Bangladesh’s coast, maritime authorities have taken precautionary measures. All fishing vessels and trawlers have been prohibited from venturing into the deep sea until further notice.
Currently, Cyclone Ditwah has a maximum sustained wind speed of 62 km/h, with gusts or squalls reaching up to 88 km/h, and the sea near the cyclone center is very rough.Outlook for November 29:
Although Ditwah poses no immediate threat of landfall, its projected path suggests it could gradually approach the southeastern Bay of Bengal over the next 48–72 hours. Coastal districts, particularly Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar, may experience increased cloud cover, gusty winds, and high seas by late Saturday or Sunday.
The BMD advises coastal residents and maritime operators to remain vigilant and monitor official weather bulletins, which will be updated every 6–12 hours. Disaster management agencies are on alert, and fishermen are urged to stay within safe waters.
