BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said that although the medical board treating party Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia believes she may need treatment abroad, her condition is currently too unstable for travel.

“At this moment, she is not fit to be moved overseas,” Fakhrul said at a press briefing at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.

He described Khaleda Zia as “critically ill” and noted that she has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for several days.

The BNP leader said specialist doctors from Bangladesh, Johns Hopkins in the United States and London Clinic in the UK are jointly supervising her care.

He added that the full medical board held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting on Friday night to assess her condition and future course of treatment.

According to Fakhrul, preparations for possible overseas treatment have already begun, including visa arrangements and communication with foreign medical centres.“If her condition improves and she becomes fit to fly, a quick decision can be made,” he said.

He urged party leaders, activists and well-wishers not to gather at the hospital, as large crowds are causing discomfort for hospital authorities and hampering treatment for both Khaleda and other patients.“Please do not crowd the hospital. We will provide regular updates on her condition,” he appealed.

Despite repeated requests, supporters continued to gather outside Evercare Hospital throughout the day, creating traffic congestion and making it difficult for journalists and hospital staff to operate.

Law enforcement and hospital authorities are monitoring the situation.Earlier, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also urged the public to avoid gathering at the hospital, warning that the crowds were disrupting treatment.

He called on everyone to pray for Khaleda’s recovery.Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 after being diagnosed with infections in her heart and lungs.
She is also suffering from pneumonia and remains under intensive observation in Coronary Care Unit (CCU), with local and foreign specialists involved in her treatment.
