The government is prepared to issue a travel pass for BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman within a single day if he expresses a desire to return to Bangladesh, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain said on Sunday.
Explaining nature of the document, Touhid noted that a travel pass is a special permit allowing certain individuals; particularly government officials and political figures, to board designated flights.
Speaking at a discussion titled “Bangladesh’s foreign policy in changing world order” organised by Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at National Press Club, the adviser said there are no restrictions preventing Tarique from coming back to the country.
Touhid added that while the government is unaware of Tarique’s current immigration status in the UK, it would be unusual for any foreign state to obstruct his return to Bangladesh.
