A prayer and discussion meeting was held at the BNP office in Sharsha upazila on Sunday seeking the quick recovery and good health of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The programme, organised by the BNP and its associate bodies, began at 4.00 pm in front of the upazila party office, drawing local leaders and activists. The doa mahfil and the heartfelt remarks of the leaders were the main highlights of the event.
The meeting was presided over by Osman Ali, president of Sharsha Union BNP, while Advocate Mostafa Kamal Mintu, senior joint secretary of Sharsha upazila BNP, conducted the session.
Speakers said Begum Khaleda Zia is an uncompromising leader in Bangladesh’s politics and an integral part of the country’s democratic journey. They prayed to the Almighty for her swift recovery and expressed hope that she would soon return to her party colleagues as a guiding political figure.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Alhaj Khairuzzaman Madhu, chief adviser of Sharsha upazila BNP; upazila BNP president Abul Hasan Zahir; general secretary Alhaj Nuruzzaman Liton; organising secretary Salauddin Ahmed; Benapole municipal BNP organising secretary Akhtaruzzaman; and joint convener Ahmad Ali Shahin. Leaders from Ulashi Union (Ward-9), Bahadurpur Union (Ward-3), and Goga Union (Ward-6) BNP also attended. Members of the upazila units of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal joined the programme as well.
Speakers recalled Khaleda Zia’s significant contributions to democratic movements and said her sound health and long life were essential for strengthening the party’s organisational activities and restoring democracy in the country. The doa and milad mahfil concluded with prayers for the BNP chief’s wellbeing and longevity.
Local residents said the programme had a positive impact on the political and social environment of Sharsha, adding that such humanitarian and prayer-centred events set a moral example in politics and help enhance unity and solidarity within the party.
