A team of senior physicians from the China Medical Team has reached Dhaka to support the ongoing treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who continues to battle life-threatening health complications at Evercare Hospital.
The five member group met the hospital’s medical board on Monday afternoon to review her condition and discuss treatment options, confirmed Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, head of the board and senior cardiologist. According to hospital officials, the visiting experts assessed her latest test reports and exchanged recommendations with Bangladeshi specialists overseeing her care.
A larger delegation of Chinese specialists is expected to arrive on Tuesday, subject to medical requirements and her evolving condition.
Earlier on Monday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists that both local and international doctors have been jointly coordinating Khaleda Zia’s treatment as her condition remains extremely fragile.
BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan echoed the concern, describing her health as “very critical,” noting that her state could be compared to ventilation level severity.
Khaleda Zia has been receiving intensive treatment in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit for the past four days, as physicians continue to manage severe complications involving her liver, kidneys and heart.
