BNP Standing Committee member and former state minister Salahudddin Ahmed has said that the party will bring every citizen under healthcare coverage by introducing a universal health card if it returns to power.
He made this remark while addressing a public rally in Magnama of Pekua upazila on the third day of his election campaign in Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency.
“Through our 31-point declaration, we have clearly stated that BNP will ensure healthcare and medical services for all citizens. No one in this country will die without treatment. Health service for all is our policy,” he said.
Salahuddin further announced that in the first phase, BNP plans to distribute Family Cards to 50 lakh to 1 crore households.
“Gradually, all families will be brought under this benefit to eradicate poverty. BNP makes promises and keeps promises. BNP is the party of the people—and our symbol, the sheaf of paddy, belongs to everyone,” he told the crowd, urging voters to seek support for the sheaf of paddy in every household. “I will stand by you until my last breath,” he added.
He also sought prayers for the quick recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, saying, “She is our leader and your leader. Pray to Almighty Allah for her speedy recovery.”
Salahuddin officially kicked off his election campaign on 2 December with public outreach in Chakaria. Since Wednesday, he has been campaigning across the unions of his birthplace, Pekua upazila, accompanied by his wife and former MP Hasina Ahmed and local BNP leaders.
According to his press secretary, Safwanul Karim, Salah Uddin will return to Dhaka on 7 December after completing a five-day campaign in his constituency.
