Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has warned that no future attempt to reintroduce fascism in Bangladesh will be tolerated.
“The fascist ruler has stepped down, but fascism itself has not disappeared. We want to say clearly that no form of fascism will ever again be tolerated on the soil of Bangladesh. Anyone who speaks or behaves in a fascist manner will find no path forward,” he said.
Shafiqur made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a divisional rally organised by eight like-minded parties demanding five points at city’s Laldighi Maidan on Friday.
Leaders and activists of the eight-party alliance began gathering at the programme venue with processions since the morning. The main event started in the afternoon with Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque in the chair.
The Jamaat chief in his speech said the students, youth, and working people of this country would no longer accept fascism.
“In the past, we resisted it with reliance on Allah. In the future, if anyone tries to rise again, they too will be resisted. No one will be spared,” he warned.
Shafiqur reiterated that the alliance does not seek the victory of any particular party.
“We want the victory of the aspirations of 18 crore people of Bangladesh, victory through the laws of the Qur’an. It has become clear that without this, Bangladesh cannot progress,” he said.
Commenting on the Awami League’s ouster, he said, “They came to power with blood on their hands and left with blood on their hands. In 2009, they killed 57 promising, patriotic, skilled military officers within two days. During the 2024 mass uprising, they fired bullets on students, youths, farmers, workers, and women and then fled by air.”
“It pains us that they tried to use our proud armed forces, police and BGB against people of the country,” said Shafqur.
He further alleged that the ousted authoritarian government had weakened state institutions, destroyed the judiciary, Election Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission. They even pocketed the Human Rights Commission.
Khelafat Majlish Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque said, “Bangladesh, the country of the poor, distressed, and working class, will no longer remain a nation only for the elite. The movement to hand over this country to its ordinary people will reach its destination, InshaAllah.”
He said that major political parties offered seats and various proposals to smaller parties.
“The politics of granting landlords a share of the common people’s rights will no longer continue. We want our rights, our ownership. We want the implementation of the Qur’anic economic, administrative, judicial, and educational systems,” said the leader.
Speaking as a special guest, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Senior Nayebe Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim alleged that conspiracies are underway to delay the upcoming national election.
“The election must be held on time, and a level playing field must be ensured,” he said.
He added that despite repeated struggles for freedom, inequality had persisted under British, Indian, Pakistani, and subsequent administrations up to 2024.
“After the July–August movement in 2024, we again witnessed killings, rape, injustice, and extortion. People have not found relief,” he said.
“Voters will be divided into two groups in the next election – one in favour of Islam, the other against it; one in favour of the country, the other in favour of external interests. If Islam prevails, not a single taka will be smuggled out of the country,” he claimed.
Other speakers at the rally included Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe Ameer ATM Azharul Islam, Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Qadir, Nezam-e-Islam Party Ameer Principal Maulana Sarwar Kamal Azizi, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party Vice-President and spokesperson Engineer Rashed Pradhan, and Bangladesh Development Party Chairman Advocate AKM Anwarul Islam Chan, among others.
