A case has been filed against Supreme Court lawyer and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Shishir Manir, alleging that his recent comment likening Roza (Islamic fasting) and Puja (Hindu worship) “as two sides of the same coin” hurt religious sentiments.

The case was lodged on Sunday with the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam by Advocate Ridwan Hossain Robin, a member of Dhaka Bar Association.

The YouTube channel “DSN,” which aired Manir’s remarks, has been named as a co-accused.

After recording the complainant’s statement, the court directed the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate and submit a report, according to court bench assistant Nazmul Talukder.

The complaint states that Manir’s remarks, along with their broadcast on DSN, were intended to provoke and offend the religious sentiments of Muslims in Bangladesh.

It further argues that equating Islamic fasting with Hindu worship could potentially incite unrest and disrupt communal harmony.

Shishir Manir, who has sought nomination from Jamaat-e-Islami for Sunamganj-2 constituency, has not yet responded to the allegations.
