Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called for urgent global action to address ongoing humanitarian crises, marking International Human Rights Day with a statement on Wednesday.
“Since the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, December 10 has been observed globally with great importance,” he said.
Dr. Rahman stressed that human rights are a “sacred trust” and essential for social justice, warning that no one’s rights should be violated for political interests or differing views.
He said disagreements within society can never justify harassment, oppression, or any form of rights violations, especially against women and civilians.
Highlighting global crises, the Jamaat chief pointed to human rights abuses in Gaza, Kashmir, Myanmar and other regions.
He accused Israeli forces of committing atrocities in Gaza, claiming that women, children, the elderly, teachers and religious leaders were being targeted.
Citing research from Germany’s MPIDR, he said over 100,000 Palestinians had been killed in Gaza by October 6, 2025.
He described the humanitarian situation as catastrophic, stating that nearly 80 percent of Gaza’s homes had been destroyed and that essential supplies were being blocked.
Dr. Rahman also condemned rights violations in Kashmir, Myanmar’s Rakhine State, Lebanon, Ukraine and Syria.
Calling for immediate international intervention, he urged the United Nations, European Union and humanitarian nations and organisations to work toward ending wars, protecting human rights and finding lasting solutions—particularly to the Palestinian crisis.
