ICT orders newspaper notice to summon Sajeeb Wazed Joy

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday directed that a notice be published in two national newspapers to summon Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case concerning alleged crimes against humanity during July–August 2024 uprising.

A two-member panel; Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder and Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud, issued the order after Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam informed the tribunal that Joy, against whom an arrest warrant is active, is currently absconding.

Granting the prosecution’s petition, the tribunal set December 17 as the next date for hearing.The second accused in the case, former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, is already in custody and was produced before the tribunal on Wednesday.

Lawyer Liton Ahmed appeared on his behalf. Joy and Palak face charges including concealing information about killings by shutting down internet services during the uprising, incitement to massacre, conspiracy and involvement in the murders.
