BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is currently receiving the highest standard of medical care at Evercare Hospital, with both local and international specialists overseeing her treatment, her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Wednesday evening.
There are no immediate plans to take her abroad, he added.
Speaking at a briefing at outside of the hospital, Dr Zahid said Khaleda Zia is under the best possible care for a critically ill patient.
“She is receiving advanced treatment and medically speaking, is able to continue with the prescribed care. She is responding to the treatment provided,” he said.
Responding to questions about her health, Dr Zahid urged the public not to believe or spread rumours.
“The people of the country care for her and are concerned about her health, but she is a patient with certain rights. It is not medically appropriate to disclose everything publicly,” he said.
Dr Zahid also noted that the medical board, working under the supervision of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, is coordinating her care responsibly.
“To ensure she receives the best possible treatment available anywhere in the world, we are continuing her care here with a team of both local and foreign doctors. The board is confident about her ongoing treatment, though ultimately, her fate is in the hands of Allah,” he added.
Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23 and was moved to Critical Care Unit on November 27 with multiple health complications.
A medical board led by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder and including specialists from Bangladesh, the UK, the USA and China, is supervising her treatment.
Her daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman, has been attending the medical board’s meetings in person since returning to Dhaka.
