Mother-daughter murder: Housemaid, husband placed on remand

A Dhaka court has placed domestic worker Ayesha on a six-day remand and her husband Rabbi Sikder on a three-day remand in a case filed over the murder of a mother and daughter in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order on Thursday after a hearing.

Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Md Shahidul Osman Masum of Mohammadpur police sought 10 days’ remand for each of the accused. Assistant Public Prosecutor Harun-or-Rashid represented the state. No lawyer appeared for the accused.

Earlier, on December 8, AJM Azizul Islam, husband of the deceased Laila Firoz, filed the murder case with Mohammadpur police station.

According to the case statement, Ayesha began working as a part-time domestic help at the complainant’s home on December 5.

On December 8, Azizul Islam left for work in Uttara around 7am and tried repeatedly to contact his wife but failed. He returned home around 11am and found his wife lying dead with stab wounds to her neck and other parts of her body. His daughter was found critically injured near the main gate.

Neighbour and sanitation worker Md Ashiq rushed the girl to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The case statement further says CCTV footage showed Ayesha entering the flat at 7:51am, and leaving at 9:35am wearing different clothes and carrying a bag. She allegedly took the daughter’s mobile phone, a laptop, gold ornaments and cash.

Azizul Islam alleged that his wife and daughter were killed with a sharp weapon sometime between 7:51am and 9:35am.
