Nahid Islam, convenor of Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP) has alleged that the recent assassination attempt on Sharif Osman Hadi involves both the Awami League and the Indian government.

He claimed that the Awami League plans such actions from Delhi and cannot carry out these operations without direct or indirect support from India.

He made these remarks after a meeting with the Chief Adviser at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday.

Nahid said, “This is a deliberate act of terrorism. The Indian government must be held accountable through its embassy in Bangladesh. By sheltering a death-sentenced genocide convict, they have committed a moral wrongdoing and are now supporting the Awami League in destabilizing Bangladesh.”

Nahid stressed that merely ensuring the safety of political leaders is not enough. “Unless the Awami League’s fascist activities are collectively resisted across society and politics, no one’s security is guaranteed. The people themselves are our true protection, and we must mobilize support from them to safeguard democracy.”

He also warned that the Awami League operates through its influence in the administration, police, and media, and has infiltrated universities and cultural institutions to advance its agenda. The NCP leader urged the government to take strict measures against these elements and ensure that all perpetrators behind Osman Hadi’s attack are immediately arrested.

Highlighting the upcoming national elections, Nahid emphasised three areas as crucial for a fair process: political mobilisation of anti-fascist forces, countering Awami League influence in courts, media, universities and cultural spaces, and ensuring administrative accountability.

He said NCP and allied forces are working to strengthen a united national front to confront fascism and preserve democratic processes.

He also noted that the attack on Osman Hadi is not an isolated incident but part of a broader conspiracy to influence the election.

Nahid also criticised the normalisation of Awami League activities across media, universities, and cultural platforms, claiming that this is a systematic attempt to rehabilitate the party politically.

He concluded by urging the government and the Election Commission to ensure security for all political leaders and take strict action against those involved in the conspiracy behind Hadi’s attempted assassination.
