Leaders of Chhatra Shakti, a group claiming to represent July Uprising participants, have warned they would take position next to the Chief Adviser’s residence unless the Home Adviser quits on Thursday night.
They issued the warning from a protest rally held at Shahbagh on Thursday afternoon.
They alleged that Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury’s weak handling of the law and order situation has led to the shooting attack on July Uprising participant Osman Hadi and the “killing” of NCP leader Jannat Ara Rumi.
Many other uprising participants were killed over the past year due to the security loopholes left unaddressed by the home adviser, they alleged.
Chhatra Shakti President Jahid Hasan warned that “if Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus wants to enjoy a sound sleep at State Guesthouse Jamuna, he better ensure that the home adviser resigns at night.”
Jahid alleged that Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has not “practical sense” and has taken no initiative to improve the security situation.
Chhatra Shakti members alleged that Jannat Ara Rumi faced cyberbullying for a long time after beating and handing over an alleged woman member of Awami League, a banned political party, to police. She even filed a general diary against the harassment and online threats, but to no avail, they claimed.
