Foreign ministry provides security assurance to embassies ahead of national election

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured diplomats that adequate security measures are in place to ensure the safety of foreign embassies in Dhaka ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.

The assurance was given during a briefing for diplomats held on Thursday afternoon at the state guesthouse Padma, where Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam outlined the government’s updated preparations and overall security arrangements for the election period.

According to a press release issued by the foreign ministry after the meeting, diplomats were informed that law enforcement agencies, including the armed forces, are on the highest level of alert and fully prepared to deal with any situation that may arise during the election.

The briefing also noted that the Election Commission is ready to welcome foreign observers for the forthcoming parliamentary polls and has invited various countries to send observer missions.

The foreign ministry said that around 40 diplomats from different countries stationed in Dhaka attended the briefing.
