The Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) has strongly condemned a series of attacks carried out against journalists, editors and media houses in Bangladesh, describing the incidents as unacceptable acts of violence and intimidation that undermine press freedom and the public’s right to information.

In a statement issued on Friday, the coalition said the attacks, which took place the previous night, strike “at the heart of press freedom” and pose a serious threat to democratic values and an open society.

The MFC called on the authorities to ensure the safety and security of all media professionals and urged swift, impartial investigations into the incidents so that those responsible can be held accountable.

“Journalists must be able to carry out their work without fear,” the statement said, emphasising that protecting media workers is essential to upholding the rule of law, democratic principles and an informed public.

The Media Freedom Coalition is a partnership of countries committed to promoting and protecting media freedom worldwide.
