Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday said a deep conspiracy is underway to destabilize the country and warned that domination thrives on division, urging national unity in the wake of the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Friday evening, Dr Shafiqur said that without unity it would be impossible to build the Bangladesh envisioned by Osman Hadi. “May the blood of martyr Osman Hadi unite us. May Almighty Allah help us and protect our beloved motherland,” he said.

Expressing deep grief over the death of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, the Jamaat leader said his heart was heavy at the loss and described Hadi as a guest of Allah. He prayed for the departed leader to be granted the highest place in Jannatul Ferdous.

Dr Shafiqur said Osman Hadi dreamed of a domination-free, independent and just Bangladesh and led that struggle until his martyrdom. He noted that Hadi believed in pursuing justice through logic and ideals rather than violence.

He said he firmly believed that Osman Hadi’s blood would not be shed in vain and that a united struggle would continue to build the “Bangladesh of justice” envisioned by him.

Calling on the nation, the Jamaat ameer demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all those involved in Hadi’s killing. He urged people to pursue their demands through patience, unity and peaceful, systematic movements, while remaining vigilant so that conspirators cannot sabotage the movement through violence.

Dr Shafiqur also expressed concern over several incidents that occurred at a time when people across the country were demanding justice for Hadi’s killing. He strongly condemned attacks and smear campaigns against Prothom Alo, The Daily Star and veteran editor Nurul Kabir, saying a free and protected media is a prerequisite for state stability. He stressed that society must not return to the culture of attacks on media seen during authoritarian rule, while urging media outlets to act responsibly and avoid hate-driven narratives during this critical period.

He said vandalism and arson at diplomatic missions and cultural centers were unacceptable. Referring to incidents of alleged blasphemy, he described such acts as grave wrongdoing but said justice must be ensured through courts, not vigilantism. He condemned the killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh over blasphemy allegations, saying taking the law into one’s own hands is contrary to Islamic teachings.

The Jamaat leader said mainstream Islamic parties and organizations believe in constitutional processes and reject any form of mob justice. He suggested that acts of violence may have been carried out deliberately to create sabotage, adding that the lack of preventive measures before such incidents and delayed responses afterward raised concerns about possible collaborators within the administration.

Urging the government to stand by those affected, Dr Shafiqur called for the swift identification and prosecution of the real perpetrators. He said all relevant agencies must act promptly and accountably to ensure a safe Bangladesh.

Concluding his message, he called on all stakeholders to rise above divisions, build national unity and work together to safeguard the country.
