Martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, is being taken from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to a mortuary, with his funeral prayers scheduled for Saturday at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, after which he will be buried beside national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The information was confirmed on Friday evening by Inqilab Manch through a statement posted on its official Facebook page.
According to the announcement, Hadi’s body was transported from the airport to the mortuary, while Inqilab Moncho activists moved to Shahbag to maintain their program.
The organization said the decision to bury Hadi beside Kazi Nazrul Islam and to hold his janaza after Zohr prayers at Manik Mia Avenue was taken in line with the family’s wishes. As a result, a planned procession was rescheduled for Saturday, when the body will be brought to the Central Mosque with a march.
Inqilab Manch urged students and supporters to continue their movement in a disciplined manner to prevent infiltration by any group seeking to disrupt the program or incite violence. It also said there would be no opportunity for the public to view the body and appealed for maintaining order and offering prayers for Hadi.
Sharif Osman Hadi died on Thursday night at around 9:45 pm while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital. After news of his death reached Dhaka, tensions spread in several areas, including Karwan Bazar, with reports of vandalism and arson.
Hadi was shot on December 12 while participating in an outreach campaign in the Bijoynagar area of the capital. He sustained critical head injuries and was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to a private hospital. He was later flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
