The Ministry of Home Affairs has called an emergency press conference to brief the media on the latest developments in the country’s overall law and order situation.
The press conference will be held Sunday (21 Dec) at 5:30pm at the Secretariat. Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury is expected to respond to questions from journalists during the briefing.
Ministry Public Relations Officer Faisal Hasan said the press briefing will take place at the ministry’s conference room at 5:30pm, focusing on “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” and updates on the overall law and order situation across the country.
It may be noted that a nationwide joint forces operation titled “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” has been underway since 13 December. Over the past week, a total of 5,949 people have been arrested under the operation, and several firearms have been recovered from those detained.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, students from various universities and colleges, leaders and activists of student organisations, and members of the public gathered at Shahbagh to mourn the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, convener of the Inqilab Moncho.
During the gathering, the protesters demanded a fair investigation into Hadi’s killing and the swift arrest of those responsible.
They also issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of the home affairs adviser, warning that failure to resign within the stipulated time would lead to tougher protest programmes involving students and the general public.
