India on Sunday rejected what it described as misleading reports in sections of the Bangladeshi media regarding a demonstration held in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
Responding to media queries about the incident that took place on Saturday (20 Dec), Official Spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said that around 20 to 25 youths had briefly gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission and raised slogans protesting the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh.
The demonstrators also called for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh.
He clarified that there was no attempt by the protesters to breach the security fence or create any security threat at any point.
Police personnel stationed at the site dispersed the group within a few minutes, he said, adding that visual evidence of the incident is publicly available.
Jaiswal reiterated that India remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all foreign missions and posts on its territory in accordance with the Vienna Convention.
The spokesperson said India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bangladesh and that Indian officials are in regular contact with Bangladeshi authorities.
He added that India has conveyed its strong concerns over attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and has urged that those responsible for the killing of Dipu Chandra Das be brought to justice.
