Shot Khulna NCP leader out of danger, doctors say

A Jatiya Nagarik Party (NCP) leader who was shot in Khulna on Monday is now out of danger, with medical reports showing no serious internal injury, said doctors.

The victim, Motaleb Shikdar, Khulna divisional chief of the NCP and a central organiser of the party’s labour wing Sramik Shakti, was shot around 11:45 AM in Sonadanga area of the town.

He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where physicians said he does not require surgery at this stage.

Speaking to reporters, NCP Joint Chief Coordinator and National Health Alliance Member Secretary Dr Md Abdul Ahad said doctors had reviewed the CT scan and found no serious internal injury.

Following consultations with the head of the neurosurgery department, doctors confirmed that Shikdar’s treatment can continue in Khulna, he added.

According to witnesses, unidentified assailants suddenly opened fire on Shikdar while he was in the Sonadanga area, leaving him injured and collapsing to the ground. Later, locals immediately rescued him and took him to the hospital.

The incident triggered tension and panic in the area. Police arrived at the scene soon after, collected evidence and began reviewing nearby CCTV footage.

Law enforcement officials said they are investigating the motive behind the attack and trying to identify those involved.

Police added that all possible angles—including political rivalry, organisational disputes or other motives—are being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
