Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman welcomed BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on his return to Bangladesh after 17 years in exile.

In a post on his verified Facebook account on Thursday (25 December), Dr Shafiqur Rahman wrote: “Mr Tarique Rahman, welcome home with your family.”

Earlier, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BBC202 (BG202) carrying Tarique Rahman and his family members arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 11:44am.

Following his arrival, Tarique Rahman left the airport on a special bus and headed towards the July 36 Expressway, where the BNP has organised a grand reception programme to mark his homecoming.

Party leaders and supporters have described the return of the BNP’s acting chairman as a significant political event, with extensive preparations made for the reception programme.
