Prices of lentils and chickpeas drop Tk 10-15 per Kg

After onion and potato, Prices of lentils and chickpeas are on decline in the arket. Their prices decreased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg in a week. Egg and vegetable markets have however remained stable.

This is giving some relief to buyers. They demand that the government’s market supervision system must be further strengthened to keep the market prices stable during fasting month of Ramadan.
Traders said prices of some daily necessities are decreasing due to increased supply in the market. If this trend continues in the coming days, there is little risk of price hike of essentials in Ramadan.
On December 24, this Correspondent visited Karwan Bazar, Mohakhali and Agargaon kitchen markets in the capital. It showed imported coarse-lentils sold at Tk 80 to Tk 85 per kg. A week ago, it was sold between Tk 95 to Tk 100.

Similarly, chickpeas sold at lower price. Gram flour sells at Tk 90 to Tk 95 per kg. A couple of weeks ago, gram flour was around Tk 110 per kg.

Monowar Hossain, owner of Ameen Store in Karwan Bazar, said prices of pulses and gram flour have decreased over five to six days. If there is more supply in the market, the prices will not increase before Ramadan.
Potato price witnessed a big decline. Due to increased supply in the new harvest season potatoes sell at Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg. Last week, it sold around Tk 30. Buyers of old potatoes have drastically fallen as new potatoes arrive in the market.
Supply of winter vegetables has further increased. As a result, the price of some items has come down by Tk 10 to Tk 20 per kg compared to last week. Depending on the quality, a kg of beans sells at Tk 30 to Tk 50, it was at Tk 40 to 60 per kg last week.

A kg of radish sells at Tk 35 to Tk 40. Price of brinjal has come down to Tk 40 to Tk 60, down by Tk 10 compared to last week. Further, medium-sized cauliflower and cabbage sell at Tk 20 to Tk 25, a bit higher at vendors shop from Tk 30 to 40 away from kitchen market.
Price of green chillies decreased to Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg. It sold at Tk 80 per kg last week,
Meanwhile, the onion market is stabilizing. Large-sized Indian onions now sell at Tk 75 to Tk 80 per kg, compared to Tk 100 to Tk 110 last week. New-cut onions sell Tk 55 to Tk 65per kg. And old local onions are being sold at Tk 110 to Tk 120.
The egg and chicken market stable. Brown eggs from farms sell at Tk 110 to Tk 115 per dozen, and white eggs at Tk 100 to Tk 105 per dozen. Broilers are sold at 160 to Tk 165 per kg, and golden chickens at 240 to Tk 260 per kg.
Rice price is stable after harvesting of Aman crop. Fine rice sells at Ta 75 to 85 per kg. Coarse rice sells at Tk 50 and above per kg.
