BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman have been included in the voter list for the 13th parliamentary election.

BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Election Commission’s public relations wing also confirmed the information.

On Saturday, Tarique and his daughter completed their voter registration and National Identity Card registration formalities.

Both applied online to register as voters in Ward-19 (Gulshan) under the Dhaka-17 constituency.

At a press conference on Saturday, Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the commission would decide on their voter registration on Sunday. “If all members of the commission reach a consensus, they will officially be included in the voter list,” he said.

National ID (NID) Director General ASM Humayun Kabir said that Tarique Rahman arrived at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon around 1pm on Saturday, shortly after his daughter completed her voter registration and left the EC premises around 12:45pm.

They completed the registration process by submitting the required forms and providing fingerprints, iris scans and other biometric data, the NID director general said.

After more than 17 years in exile, Tarique Rahman, along with his wife and their daughter, returned home from London on 25 December.
