The deadline for submitting nomination forms for the upcoming 13th parliamentary polls will not be extended, according to the Election Commission.
“There is no new directive or plan from the commission to extend the nomination paper submission period,” EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters on Monday afternoon.The deadline for the submission of nomination papers expired at 5pm today (29 December).
Earlier, sources at the EC indicated that the deadline might be extended by two days.On 11 December, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin announced the schedule to hold the parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter simultaneously on 12 February 2026.
According to the schedule, nomination papers must be submitted by 29 December. Scrutiny will be conducted from 30 December to 4 January.
Appeals against returning officers’ decisions may be filed between 5 and 9 January, and these will be resolved between 10 and 18 January.
The deadline for candidates to withdraw is 20 January, after which the final list of contestants will be published on 21 January with election symbols allocated the same day.Campaigning will begin on 22 January and continue until 7:30am on 10 February.
