A man has confessed at a Dhaka court that he helped Faisal Karim Masud cross the border into India after Faisal fatally shot Inqilab Moncho Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Aminul Islam Raju voluntarily gave a confessional statement in this regard at a Dhaka court on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam recorded the statement following a petition from the investigating officer (IO).

Earlier in the day, the investigating officer and Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Foysal Ahmed produced Raju before the court with the outcome of a five-day remand. During the five-day remand, Raju admitted to helping Foysal and one of his accomplices escape to India, Inspector Foysal told the court, requesting the judge to formally record the confession.

On 24 December, Raju was arrested from the Mirpur-11 area of the capital.

On 12 December, Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station.

Later, upon reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area, it was found that while Sharif Osman Hadi and his associate were travelling on a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, two unidentified assailants approached them on a motorcycle and opened fire on Osman Hadi with the intent to kill.

Osman Hadi was seriously injured in the attack and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. After surgery there, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital. Subsequently, on 15 December, he was sent to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he later died.

Police later claimed that after reviewing the footage, they identified Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh as the attackers, with Faisal firing the shots and Alamgir driving the motorcycle.

On 14 December, Javed, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station over the incident.
