Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh Baharul Alam has instructed police officers across the country to give the highest priority to the upcoming national elections and to maintain law and order at any cost.
The directive was issued when the IGP was addressing the monthly crime review meeting at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Monday, said a press release of the Police Headquarters.
He warned that any form of chaos related to the elections must be dealt with immediately through strict legal measures.
Emphasizing the need for a strong security presence, the IGP directed field-level police officers to increase visible police activities, including intensified patrols and strengthened check post operations, to ensure pre-election stability.
He also said that anyone obstructing lawful police duties would be arrested and produced before the court without delay.
During the meeting, Alam instructed officers to intensify efforts to recover looted weapons from police stations.
He stressed the importance of widely publicizing the government-declared rewards for the recovery of such weapons.
The meeting also reviewed the overall crime situation for November 2025, including the status of arrest warrants, progress of investigations, trial outcomes, conviction rates, and other key law enforcement issues.
All Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), and District Police Superintendents participated in the meeting virtually.
Senior officials present at the Police Headquarters included Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain., Additional IGP (Crime and Operations Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, DIG (Operations) Md Rezaul Karim, and DIG (Confidential) Md Kamrul Ahsan, among others.
